Greenhouses grow produce for your kitchens or the market. The official crop milestones are 1, 5, 10, 20 and every available type.
Nivalis Nights Greenhouse: Crop Milestones and Rewards
Greenhouses are the ingredient source you scale yourself: 505 describes them as letting you "plant and harvest all types of produce, which you can use in your own restaurants or sell on the market". No crop has ever been named by the developer, and there is no crop list, no growth time and no greenhouse price in the public record. What does exist is a five-step achievement ladder — one crop, five unique, ten different, twenty, then every available type — which is the only hard scale in the system and unusually revealing about who actually uses it.
What the greenhouse is, in the developer's own words
The pinned official FAQ answers What roles do the Greenhouses play in Nivalis Nights? in three sentences: "Greenhouses let you plant and harvest all types of produce, which you can use in your own restaurants or sell on the market. You can tweak different Greenhouse settings to set the optimal growing conditions for your produce." Two outlets, one control panel, no numbers.
The rest of the first-party record agrees. The store page's feature list says "Buy or grow your own ingredients", Farming Sim is one of the game's user tags on Steam, and the launch announcement names three sourcing channels: "Source ingredients from local markets, grow your own produce, or serve up your very own catch of the day straight from the sea." The March 2026 community Q&A classes the greenhouse as a daytime activity alongside fishing — "managing a greenhouse to grow crops in increasingly complex systems" — and gives greenhouses their own inventory in the four-inventory list.

The crop ladder: the only numbers the game publishes
Seven of the 120 Steam achievements are farming achievements, and five of them form a single ladder with the crop count built into the description. Rates below were pulled from Steam's global stats page at 15:04 UTC on 30 September 2026, when the store page showed 1,355 reviews at 73% positive. Steam labels the column "% of all players", and these move every hour as the player base grows — treat them as a launch-week snapshot, not a settled average.
| Step | Achievement | Official description | Unlock rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | First Harvest | Plant and harvest something in the greenhouse. | 21.2% |
| 5 unique | Harvester | Plant, grow, and harvest 5 unique crops. | 3.2% |
| 10 different | Farmer | Successfully harvest 10 different types of crops. | 0.7% |
| 20 | Serial Farmer | Grow 20 different crops from seed to harvest. | 0.1% |
| All available | Farming Specialist | Cultivate a diverse garden from all available crop types. | 0.1% |
Three things fall out of that table. First, the game has at least 20 crops, because Serial Farmer demands 20 — but Farming Specialist is worded "all available crop types" with no number, so the ceiling is unknown. Second, the wording gets stricter as it climbs: Harvester and Farmer say "harvest", while Serial Farmer says "from seed to harvest", which reads as a full cycle per crop rather than a pickup. Third, 0.1% is Steam's display floor, not a measurement — Serial Farmer and Farming Specialist are both rarer than the number shown.
The drop-off is the real story. Of everyone who has harvested a single crop, about 15% have five unique types and about 3% have ten. And for scale, First customer sits at 82.4% — nearly four times the greenhouse rate. The tutorial funnel puts you behind a counter; almost nobody ends up behind a growing tray. The all 120 achievements and their rates have their own page.

Two farming achievements that sit off the ladder
The remaining two break the pattern and are worth knowing about because neither is a crop count.
Ma Gomba's Gift reads "Grow poisonous mushrooms for Ma Gomba" at 0.2%. It is a named-character delivery, not a milestone, and the only first-party text that ever names a kind of thing you can grow — poisonous mushrooms, attributed to a person the game itself names. How many you need, and whether they come from seeds, is not stated.
Project Grapevine reads "Spread seeds on the Oil Rig" at 0.1%, and it contains no greenhouse at all. The Oil Rig has its own visit achievement sitting at 9.5%, so this is an industrial rig you seed by hand, gated behind reaching a district roughly one player in ten visits.
The fan wikis filling these search results carry long greenhouse crop lists. Not one entry in them comes from 505, ION LANDS or a patch note. Ma Gomba's poisonous mushrooms are the closest the developer has come to naming a plant, and even that is a quest item.
What the greenhouse was documented to contain
One official post goes deeper than anything else, and it is old. The MARCH 2025 COMMUNITY BLOG, published 7 March 2025 — eighteen months before launch — devotes a section to WELCOME TO THE GREENHOUSES and lays out the design in full: greenhouses are "scattered across various areas of the map", the interior is yours to lay out and fill with "specialized machinery purchased from different vendors around the city, each catering to a specific purpose", you can grow "mushrooms, grains, vegetables - if you acquire the necessary seeds - and even print meat and automate certain processes, such as irrigation", and a farming console lets you "adjust various parameters such as temperature, humidity, and light - factors that directly influence the growth speed of your crops." Rent and scale are in there too: "Every citizen - with enough money - can rent and manage more than one greenhouse."
The following month's devlog adds the staffing link — hired managers can "collect and making use of goods from your greenhouse", which is why greenhouse output is not purely a solo mechanic. The manager and staff guide covers the rest of that loop.
It predates release by eighteen months. The store page, the pinned FAQ and all 120 achievement descriptions confirm none of printed meat, automated irrigation or advanced modules, and nothing published since says how many greenhouses exist, what the console settings are called, or whether mushrooms, grains and vegetables all shipped. Quote this section as what the studio said it was building, never as what is in your save.

Where the greenhouses are, and the walk to them
The March 2025 blog says only that multiple greenhouses are "scattered across various areas of the map". There is no count, no district list and no map marker in any official text. The reason is already being asked for in public: the greenhouse thread on the Steam General Discussions board opens with a single request, posted on 30 September — "Please let the greenhouses be a fast travel point. Pls pls pls! I am tired of having to run there every time." Nobody from 505 has answered it, and no official source mentions fast travel for greenhouses.
Until that changes, the honest answer to "where do I farm" is that you find them by walking. The district list covers what the city names officially.

What "free ingredients" actually costs you
Greenhouses are usually sold as the free half of the ingredient chain, and only the output is free. Rent is money, machinery is bought from vendors, and seeds are something you "acquire" — a word the devlog uses without ever saying from whom or for how much. Grow-your-own is a supply line you pay to set up and then stop paying per unit; it is not a zero-cost loop.
One cost no official document mentions: spoilage. The only evidence ingredients carry a decay timer comes from a community mod, not from 505. A player-built BepInEx patch posted on the Steam boards sorts each ingredient stack by remainingDecayTime with creationDay as a tiebreak, because stock is otherwise "appended to the end" and cooks take from the end — the newest item, not the most stale. The mod's own description says the item "closest to spoiling sits at the pop end" and that it "also affects inventory transfers". That is strong circumstantial evidence that the item system has a perishable timer underneath, and exactly what a greenhouse planner would want to know. It stays an inference from modded code: the developer has never documented it, and their position on modding tools is that it "isn't part of the game's scope at the moment" — see our mods page.
The sell side has the same hole. No crop has a published price, no greenhouse a published yield, no vendor a published unit cost, so nobody can tell you whether farming pays better than buying. Where to buy ingredients sets out what the sourcing system does confirm, and the business and money guide covers the revenue numbers that are on the record.
What 505 has not published
The honest list, so nobody wastes an evening hunting for it:
- Crop names or a crop count. At least 20 exist; the total is never stated.
- Growth times, growth speed numbers or per-plant yields.
- Greenhouse rent, how many one citizen can hold, or which districts they sit in.
- Where seeds come from and what they cost.
- The names, ranges or effects of the greenhouse console settings.
- Whether printed meat, automated irrigation and advanced modules shipped.
- Market prices for any specific crop, and whether produce spoils in the base game.
FAQ
How many crops are there in Nivalis Nights? At least 20. Serial Farmer asks for 20 different crops grown from seed to harvest; Farming Specialist asks for "all available crop types" without giving a number, so the total is unannounced.
Do greenhouses cost money in Nivalis Nights? Yes, per the March 2025 devlog: you can "rent and manage more than one greenhouse" if you have enough money, machinery is bought from vendors, and seeds are acquired. No figure has ever been published for any of the three.
Can I skip farming and just buy everything? Yes. Markets are the default sourcing route and the launch announcement lists them first. The greenhouse is the source you scale and the one that also pays on the market.
Is farming worth it in Nivalis Nights? Unanswerable with published data. No crop prices, yields or grow times exist, so no page can compute a return — including ours. What the achievement rates do say is that most players skip it entirely.
Where are the greenhouses? Scattered across multiple areas of the map, per the only official sentence about their placement. No count, no district list, and players are already asking for fast travel.
